With reference to Annabel's comment on Oct 4th. it's not correct to say all access land is closed to dogs. However, the Natural England website at www.openaccess.naturalengland.org.uk/wps/portal/oasys/maps/MapSearch gives full information and maps of the areas in which dogs are not allowed.

Editor - Thanks Peter for the expert view.

First impressions of the site were exciting. The huge number of walks were inspiring, however there are no gpx files to go with the walks which render this site almost pointless to a keen walker.
Andrew farquharson - October 19, 2010
Editor - Hi Andrew - so I am not a keen walker? I have never owned or needed to use a GPS system while I have been on the hill. The test for being a keen hill walker is not down to owning a piece of gadgetry but is one's ability to enjoy the landscape etc. I do accept the value of GPS but as many will know the massive content available on this site is down to me giving up hours of free time for other people's benefit. GPX are in the initial stages of inclusion on the site - but only that.

I'm new to hill walking and I found your site by accident, but it's no accident that I'll be using it again and again. Wonderful!

Tried your walk 1401 yesterday while visiting the Peak District and would like to make 2 comments, firstly that the ford you need to coss is impossible when the river is flowing rapidly and secondly that dogs are not permitted (even on leads) once you pass the 'boundary of open country sign' consequently we had to turn back and retrace our steps.
Annabel - October 4, 2010
Editor - Thanks for your comments. It is worth noting that all open country is supposedly dog-free territory. It is also worth remembering that the conditions when crossing rivers vary from day to day. There are many times when I have had to head back due to high river levels.

Just had to write. This page never ceases to amaze me. It's fantastic. Thank you so much.

Editor - Thanks for the complement.

Great site with great walks. I use it a lot to organise a small group of people who walk regularly. Just arrived back from a week in Scotland and did three of the walks listed in the Loch Lomond section. One point though! the grid reference for the car park on walk 2413 - Ben Venue should be 505068 and not 505608 as listed! Keep up the good work.
Steve Roddis - September 19, 2010
Editor - Grid reference has been corrected. Thanks for spotting that one!

Did walk 3413 (Watership Down etc.) on 16th September 2010, starting from Overton, where there is a large free car park. Great walk, excellent directions and marvellous views from Watership Down, including a fly-past by the Red Arrows! All in all, a perfect day. Thank you for sharing this walk. May we have more similar ones, please, i.e. walks of 10 miles +? The majority of walking books have only short walks, not long enough for a full day out.
Tony Miles - September 19, 2010
Editor - Glad you liked it - will try and get some more walks of 10 miles+ on the site.

Just seen your walk from Saundersfoot to Tenby - looks like a great walk. Thanks! Simon
