The village of Tugby lies 12 miles south of Leicester, just off the A47. Centrebus route 747 from Leicester to Uppingham provides a bus service. On entering the village from the A47, turn right along Main Street and car parking is available at the village hall (grid ref. SK761009).

Start the walk from the village green and proceed along Hallaton Road passing the 'Fox and Hounds' village pub on your left. Continue along Hallaton Road to reach a crossroads (grid ref. SK764998). Continue straight across and continue along the lane until you reach some farm buildings. Take the bridleway (grid ref. SK765994) to the left of these buildings and carry on until it meets another track. Carry on in the same direction across the field and when it goes down into a dip you meet another tarmac track. Follow this tarmac track as it rises through a wood. When you shortly reach a yellow marker post turn right and continue up the headland to the right of a wood. Continue along the well-signposted route in the same direction. You pass through a series of open fields with no gates to open/shut and no stiles to climb.

Nearing Hallaton at grid ref. SP786972 you have an alternative. Either continue on the bridleway to reach Goadby Road at grid ref. SP786967 or follow the path indicated by a yellow post on the other side of the field. This path takes you to the north end of Hallaton ending in an alley that leafs onto the Goadby Road. Whichever option is taken, turn right along Goadby Road and left into Tugwell Lane (grid ref. SP785967). Follow this road until you reach a footpath sign on your right indicating you are now on a section of the Leicestershire Round.

Before you carry on with the walk you could continue down the road to St Michael & All Angels Church and also the nearby Hallaton Museum which records the history of the village and of the bottle-kicking contest between it and the nearby village of Medbourne, which takes place annually on Easter Monday.

To continue the walk, go into the field and keep to the left along the hedgerow and then swing left when the hedge finishes. Walk down into the dip and then go right as the path rises. After a steady climb you cross a track and then the path drops again. Aim for a yellow marker post lower down in the middle of the field and after it you will see a footbridge over a stream. Cross the stream and ascend another slope heading towards Othorpe House Farm. Walk into the courtyard, continue between two barns and go left at the end of them. Almost immediately go to the right of another barn.

Continue into open country following the path to each another dip. Here you have a choice of path. The left-hand one goes straight ahead and takes you onto Church Hill Road, with the right-hand path goes diagonally up the slope and eventually onto the same road, but further along. Either way, carry on along Church Hill Road, which soon becomes Cranoe Road, and continue with the road walk to reach the crossroads in the village of Glooston.

Go straight across and past a row of terraced houses on the right with 'The Old Barn Inn' on the left. When you reach the end of the cul-de-sac take the footpath to the right and follow it until you reach a wood on the edge of Noseley New Park. Take the path through the wood as it bends to the left and when you come out into a field again, go diagonally right up the slope to the edge of Noseley Wood. Go right and follow the contours of the wood until a track comes into sight off to your right. Reaching the track, follow it passing through a gate. Then go left following the yellow post until you eventually come out on The Avenue (grid ref. SP734990). Turn right and follow this road past the turnoff for Goadby village to take the signed bridleway on the left.

Climb the slope and follow this well-marked route until you reach a pond in Rolleston. Just past the pond take the bridleway to the right. Go along the northern edge of Crow Wood. Then as the bridleway bends to the right, go through a gate, up a slope and across two fields to the edge of another wood. Go right into the wood and take the footbridge to the left going immediately right. Go right to the edge of the field and then downhill to the far side of the next field swing right and follow the headland which will take you back into Tugby.
