Morfa Bychan, Pendine, Carmarthenshire
Walk Photo 336901
Caption - Morfa Bychan, Pendine, Carmarthenshire. The secluded bay of Morfa Bychan near Pendine. In 1866 five teenage girls from Laugharne were rescued at the bay when they became trapped by the fast flowing tide below Gilman Point visible in the distance. They were rescued by William Davies who risked his own life by swimming to the aid of the girls were in serious danger of drowning. In 1943, hundreds of soldiers descended on the bay as preparation for the D Day landing in Normandy. The concrete anti tank defences are still visible. Apparently, the pebbled beach was formed after the great storm of 1896.
