Walk Route Description

Walk from Chadlington (Oxon) exploring the surrounding countryside and woodland. The route passes through the hamlet of Dean before following Coldron Brook south to explore an area of woodland and its lake. Continuing west the walk crosses farmland by the River Evenlode before returning to the start. The route uses sections of the Wychwood Way and Oxfordshire Way. The walk passes the Tite Inn (Chadlington) if refreshments are required.

The start is the parking area at the Chadlington Sports Club (grid ref. SP330220) which is located on the north side of Chapel Road. After parking exit the parking are and turn left along Chapel Road to join the Wychwood Way. Continue ahead passing St Nicholas church on your right. 250 metres beyond the church, bear left along a bridleway with adjacent fingerpost. When the track bends left continue ahead, cross a stream, and exit via a gate onto a lane (grid ref. SP342225). Turn right and continue to a T-junction and turn right. After 350 metres cross a stream and turn left over a stile with adjacent fingerpost. The path crosses a meadow and bears right to exit onto a lane.

Turn right, and almost immediately turn right at a fingerpost. The path runs beside Coldron Brook which is followed for 700 metres to a bridleway (grid ref. SP244214). Turn right to join the Oxfordshire Way. After crossing a field, the route passes through woodland with a small lake between the trees on your left. Leaving the trees the path runs to the right of Greenhill Copse and continues to Catsham Lane (grid ref. SP331208). Cross the lane and continue west along the Oxfordshire Way with the River Evenlode meandering across fields on your left. Continue ahead to Pudlicote Lane and turn right.

After 200 metres turn right onto a bridleway (the fingerpost is hidden in the hedge). Continue ahead for a kilometre to reach a pond. Turn left and then right to skirt around the pond and pass Lower Court Farm on your right to reach a lane. Turn left and continue to a T-junction. Take the enclosed path opposite which leads along a grassy strip between fields to exit onto Cross's Lane at a kissing gate. Cross to signed path opposite. The path crosses a field to run beside a hedge on your right. Cross the stile on the right and head downhill. At the bottom of the slope turn left and continue to a lane via a kissing gate. Turn right to pass the Tite Inn on your left. Opposite the inn, turn right along a narrow enclosed path with fingerpost. The path runs beside the rear of houses on your left and leads to another enclosed path between houses to reach Chipping Norton Road.

Turn right and a few metres past Rawlinson Close on your left, turn left up a track between hedges. Continue ahead to enter a field. A clear path runs half-right across the field and continues back to the Chadlington Sports Club car park.
